Item Description
Rockne died in a Kansas plane crash along with seven others on March 3, 1931. Just a few months later on Oct. 13, 1931 Universal released the movie "The Spirit of Notre Dame" which was "dedicated to Knute Rockne". The 1.25" button w/Phila. Badge back paper shows the star Lew Ayers plus a black ribbon that holds a brass shell football. NM.The second button is 1.5", no maker, showing Rockne below the film title and promoting showings at RKO Theatres on Nov. 14th. Reverse curl  as .75" length with small cello chips gone, but front remains Exc. Last is 1-3/8" tall brass pin designed like an award ribbon. Back names maker Spies Bros, Chi. and front shows Rockne with text "K. Rockne/All American/World Premier/South Bend/Oct. 4, 1940. This Warner Bros. movie starred Pat O'Brien as Rockne and Ronald Reagan played the role of George Gipp, known as the "Gipper". Tiny luster loss. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
