Item Description
17x21.5" mat contains illustration board w/mixed media original art for cover to 1950s British comic John Wayne Adventure Comics #23, distributed by World Distributors. Art is by Walt Howarth (1928-2008), a British illustrator best known for his work on numerous British comic annuals (most of them for World Distributors) in a career that spanned 60 years. Art has been matted to 115x14.5" and shows The Duke from the neck up, hiding in water hole behind boulder as Native American war party looks for him. Art has hand-painted title (and price at bottom left) as well as hand-painted portrait of Wayne cut out and applied at upper left. Howarth has signed his full name just below this area. Exc.
