Item Description
Large 28.75x44-5/8" open frame w/19.25x35.5" image area contains double-matted oil on board original art depicting muscular man and woman (modeled after Vallejo himself and fellow fantasy artist Julie Bell). Both fire bows (the man's being adorned w/horned skull), the projectiles are birds instead of arrows. The female archer is depicted bare-breasted. Both exhibit toned physiques. Art is by Peruvian artist Boris Vallejo, best known for his hyper-representational paintings, which have appeared on the covers of numerous sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks and are featured in a series of best-selling calendars. Subjects of his paintings are typically sword and sorcery gods, monsters, and well-muscled male and female barbarians engaged in battle. This piece was featured as the centerfold of the 1987 Boris Vallejo Fantasy Olympics calendar, published by Workman Publishing in 1987. Each month featured a different Olympic sport rendered in a fantasy setting. Vallejo has signed and dated at lower left. Some scattered blemishes to sky area, but still VF overall and ready for display as framed.
