Item Description
Complete first version 1933 member’s kit missing only the generic mailer. The first issue “Life Of Tom Mix” manual is 5x7” with 16 pages. Later that year, an “enlarged” edition was issued with close-up photo of Tom on cover, minus Tony. The second edition was “enlarged” by offer of additional premiums. Two items that came with this first version kit are rare. One is the 3” square “TM/Tom Mix Ralston Straight Shooters” patch with the design printed on, rather than woven into the fabric (we list this patch in Hake guide as TMX-37, but called it second version when in fact it is the first version – to be corrected in Edition #7). Second is Mint, unbent “Lucky Horseshoe Nail.” Page 12 of manual explains how to bend “Nail That Tom Mix Has Sent You” into a ring. Nail is poked through apparent original 4.5”square stiff paper sheet. Only the second we’ve been able to positively guarantee as the Mix premium as nail has no markings. Kit also includes 5x7” photo of Tom and Tony and a 2x3.25” folder titled “Mother-Just One Moment Please” that opens to 6x6.5” double-sided Ralston cereal promo. All essentially Mint except original owner’s name and street lightly penciled on page 2 as instructed. Patch and authentic Lucky Horseshoe Ring are rare.
