Item Description
Vintage Courvoisier matte has been triple-matted to 8.5x9" in 19.25x20.75" frame. Display features hand-inked and painted image area depicting Katharine Hepburn as she appeared as Little Bo Peep in the 1938 animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures. The film parodies several Mother Goose nursery rhymes using caricatures of popular Hollywood film stars of the 1930s and was nominated for an Academy Award. Hepburn is during pivotal moment she looks for her sheep and this is two-cel setup w/hand-painted Courvoisier shadow bkg. Cel was originally sold by Courvoisier Galleries, c. 1938. Cel has some scattered faint discoloration to Hepburn's skirt and her arms/shoulders and chest show some wear w/a few tiny paint flakes, but these are not overly distracting. Painted bkg. has slightly diagonal horizontal crease, which is most noticeable in cloud area at right. Original Courvoisier matte has neatly penciled "From 'Mother Goose Goes Hollywood'" title at bottom left and larger cut-out of additional mattes reveal inscription and Walt Disney signature attributed to Disney artist Tom Wood. Fine overall, but makes for wonderful display as professionally matted and framed. Cels from this short are incredibly difficult to locate and are in high demand. Rare.
