Item Description
10.5x15-7/8" artboard features pen and ink original art (w/screentone accents) for page 1 title page of Superman Family #177, published by DC Comics July 1976. Art is by Kurt Schaffenberger (1920-2002), best known for his work on Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family during both the Golden Age and Bronze Age of comics, as well as his work on the title Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane during the 1950s and 1960s. Art is for Cary Bates' Bride Of The Stars storyline and features three images of Supergirl, beginning at left in her alter-ego as college student Linda Danvers, w/issue's antagonist Ranar changing her clothing to slowly reveal her in Supergirl uniform. Aged "Supergirl" title logo paste-over at top left w/publishing indicia strip paste-over across bottom. Top margin has inked "Supergirl" name in space for title w/"Superman Family" written above. Top margin has inked issue/page numbers and month/year of publication. Staple hole at upper left corner. Back has DC copyright inkstamp and blue marker scribble over "Photographed" inkstamp. Art remains clean and Exc.
