Item Description
15-1/8x22-1/8" artboard features pen and ink original art for title page of Race For The Moon #1, published by Harvey March 1958. Art is by Bob Powell (1916-1967), a comic artist known for his work during the Golden Age of comics, including on Sheena, Queen of the Jungle and Mr. Mystic. Powell also did the pencil art for the iconic bubble gum trading card series Mars Attacks. Title page for Report From Space story features five panels and shows the history of the early days of space exploration, w/image of Sputnik at top and going on to postulate some upcoming advances in flight and space technology. Great images include high-tech military radar dish and rocketship designs. Text w/Russian meaning for Sputnik's name has been covered over w/correctional fluid. "Race For The Moon" title block at top left is glossy stat paste-over and "Report From Space" title area has glue staining as once paste-over. Top margin has inked title and issue number w/faint penciling and lower right has Comics Code Authority inkstamp. Back has date stamp and copious penciled calculations pertaining to speed facts mentioned on front. Artboard has all over tiny age spotting and art is Fine/VF overall.
