Item Description
Six approx. 13x19" artboards feature pen and ink original art for complete six-page Cave Girl story from Africa #1, published by Magazine Enterprises 1955. Art is by Bob Powell (1916-1967), a comic artist known for his work during the Golden Age of comics, including Sheena, Queen of the Jungle and Mr. Mystic. Powell also did the pencil art for the iconic bubble gum trading card series Mars Attacks. The Doom Boat was the last story in this issue and shows Cave Girl defending the Congo Queen II steam paddleboat from attacks by S'Kubulu spearmen. Cave Girl defeats three warrior sent to stop her and then proceeds to capture S'Kubulu chief Kubulu, forcing an end to the hostilities. Of note, Kubulu is depicted as somewhat stereotypical African native of the time. Cave Girl appears in total of 20 panels. First artboard has "Cave Girl" title logo stat which has evenly aged. Top of each artboard has "CG 15" inked notation that has been crossed out and correct "Africa" title inked beside it, along w/issue/pages numbers. Back of each artboard has Comic Code Authority inkstamp. Back of first artboard has strips of brown paper tape at center left/right. First artboard has spot of glue staining to bottom of second panel while second and third artboards have one entire panel each w/glue staining. Some scattered text/art corrections and some lt. wear/aging. Still VF overall.
