Item Description
13-1/8x19.5" artboard features pen and ink original art by Jack Kirby (1917-1994), inked by Vince Colletta (1923-1991) from same issue as previous two items. Art is for page 11 and features four panels, showing no longer disguised Pluto unleashing two of his Titan Warriors to drag Hercules to Hades as Pluto has tricked him into ruling Hades. As expected, Hercules fights back. Hercules is seen in every panel while Pluto and Hippolyta are seen only in splash panel at top. Top margin has stamped Journey Into Mystery title and inked issue/page numbers and month of publication. Margins have penciled editorial notations pertaining to action of this page. Bottom margin has been signed in black felt tip pen (now aged) by Jack Kirby. Margins have some scattered dust soiling w/staple hole at top left and residue from price sticker at top right corner. Spot of staining just below center left margin. This slightly extends into panel but does not affect image. Back has Comics Code Authority inkstamp. Back also has three spots of glue staining (which do not show through to front) and some surface paper lifts as once mounted. Back top margin and upper left/right margins have strips of fabric tape as once mounted. Aside from mentioned spot, art remains clean and VF/Exc. Would make for nice framed display. Great early Hercules content.
