Item Description
13.5x20-5/8" artboard features pen and ink original art by Jack Kirby (1917-1994), inked by Vince Colletta (1923-1991) for Thor Vol. 1 #128, published by Marvel May 1966. Art is for page 6 and features five panels, showing Hercules (who had recently debuted in Journey Into Mystery Annual #1 in 1965) battling mechanical titan at Stardust Studios (where a Hercules film is being made; in reality a front of Pluto and Hippolyta) before being confronted by wall of flames. Pluto (in disguise) appears and offers to make Hercules famous. Hercules is seen in every panel, Pluto in last two. Top margin has stamped Journey Into Mystery title (having become Thor just two issues prior to this issue) and has inked issue/page numbers and month of publication. Top margin also has penciled editorial notation pertaining to action of this page. Similar text along bottom margin. Margins have some scattered dust soiling w/some minor staining at upper right which just slightly infringes into word balloon in first panel. Back has two spots of glue staining (which do not show through to front) and some surface paper lifts as once mounted. Art remains clean and would display Exc. if framed. Great early Hercules content.
