Item Description
10x14-3/8" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish Marvel Comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for the Spanish Patrulla-X Vol. 3 #28, which reprints X-Men Vol. 1 #112 and was published in Spain by Mundi in 1979, © Marvel Comics Group. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge w/art showing Magneto tossing Colossus and forcing Wolverine's clawed hand towards his face as Storm looks on, slightly differing from Marvel's cover art by Dave Cockrum and George Pérez's in that Espi's interpretation has slightly different coloring for Magneto's helmet and costume. Art has two-piece vellum overlay which has handwritten Spanish text (including title at top) and is once taped to back of artboard w/attached hand-lettered Spanish story title that translates to "Metal Games." Back of artboard has handwritten "Patrulla-X, 28" at top in black felt tip pen. Artboard has slight warp and minor corner tip wear but o/w art remains bright, clean and Exc. A wonderful example from the era when Espi's art dominated covers of Spanish Marvel comic books, featuring some of Marvel's most popular characters. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for.
