Item Description
11-7/8x18" artboard features mixed media original art for 1931 Bertram Mills' Circus poster featuring illustration of "Zaro Agha - 156 Years Old Turk - The Oldest Man In The World!" w/young woman in yashmak behind him. Zaro Aga (his actual name) was a Kurdish man who claimed to be one of the longest-living humans ever. When he died in Istanbul, Turkey on June 29, 1934, he claimed to be 160 years old. Additional poster text notes Aga "Fought Against Napoleon Bonaparte In 1799" and poster was printed by noted poster printer W.E. Berry of Bradford, England (who also produced many British film posters) for Aga's first appearance in England. Blank marquee at bottom. Art shows some scattered wear, mainly along margins and comes w/original worn spiderweb overlay still partially attached at top. Artboard has some corner tip wear but art remains Fine/VF. Rare and unique circus poster original art. From the archives of W.E. Berry.
