Item Description
15x19.75" heavy Whatman Drawing Board features mixed media original art for cover to Hanna-Barbera Bandwagon #1, where it was used as front and back covers (w/back cover not including title or any trade dress) for Gold Key comic published Oct. 1962. Art is attributed to Harvey Eisenberg and Norm McGary. Cover features musical parade of Hanna-Barbera characters, including Wally Gator, Touché Turtle, Augie Doggie, Lippy the Lion, Yakky Doodle and Pixie and Dixie. Artboard has acetate overlay attached at top w/aged masking tape, and overlay has attached trade dress stats, color blocks behind "Bandwagon" title are cut-out paper strips attached to art. Bottom right has hand-lettered title, issue number and job number in black ink. Art area is surrounded by printer labels and remains clean and bright. Overlay has handwritten ink notation at left that reads "This Overlay To Be Used In Lieu Of Mechanical." Artboard has corner tip wear and scattered pin holes across top/bottom margins. Overlay shows moderate wear at lower left w/large corner piece missing. Artboard/overlay are Fine overall. Art could be matted and framed for VF display. Comes w/reading copy of the comic this art was published in. Gold Key Hanna-Barbera cover art rarely comes up for auction and this is an exceptional example.
