Item Description
Three 16.25x21.75" artboards feature pen and ink original art (w/blue pencil accents) for complete three-page story originally published in Big Daddy Roth #1 in Oct./Nov. 1964 by Dennis Ellefson. Art is for The Subversive Ratfinks story and features Roth receiving summons from the US Government to appears before the House Unlike America Committee, which causes Roth to think his Rat Finks of America organization has been deemed subversive. Dressed in an Uncle Sam costume, Roth is repeatedly questioned why he paints cars red (as if this indicates communist loyalties) and goes on to explain that it's an eye-catching color while using a variety of mod terms, which causes the senators (including a caricature of Barry Goldwater) to dismiss him, proclaiming him insane and that the communists wouldn't touch him as "He'd Drive 'Em Nuts!" Extensive preliminary blue pencil text is visible. "The Subversive Ratfinks" title on first artboard is printed label on attached cut-out paste-overs and "Roth" name on mailbox on first artboard is also printed label. Bottom left corner of each artboard has inked "Roth" name and page number. Scattered blue pencil editorial notations in bottom margins. Margins show some scattered aging and corner tip wear. Art remain clean and VF to Exc. From the Archives of Publisher Pete Millar.
