Item Description
7.25x11.5" artboard has mixed media original art showing loincloth-clad man approaching scantily-clad woman as large dragon-like creature and knife-wielding man await his approach. Preliminary art for Ballantine/Del Ray sci-fi anthology The Best Of Leigh Brackett, this scene is entitled "Enchantress Of Venus" at lower left. 1977. Lower right has been signed by Peruvian artist Boris Vallejo, best known for his hyper-representational paintings, which have appeared on the covers of numerous sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks and are featured in a series of best-selling calendars. Subjects of his paintings are typically sword and sorcery gods, monsters, and well-muscled male and female barbarians engaged in battle. Margins have some surface paper lifts at top and right corners have small pieces of masking tape. Back of artboard has some lt. tape staining at margins, but this does not affect front. Art remains clean and could be matted for Exc. display. Comes w/signed limited edition portfolio booklet, in which this preliminary art was published beside Vallejo's finished art as it was published for the book.
