Item Description
Complete set of seven 15x22" artboards comprise full seven-page "Chip Collins" story's pen and ink original art by George Appel. Art was published in "Fight Comics" #17, published by Fiction House Feb. 1942. World War II story deals w/American ace Chip Collins helping the RAF keep the skies over England safe. Story shows Chip watching Nazi Messerschmitt crashing over Scotland, its pilot bailing out. The German claims he is defecting and wants to see his old friend Lord Shackleton. In reality his mission is to steal the plans for Shackleton's new aircraft cannon for the Nazi cause. Chip's plane is stolen by the fleeing German and Chip is given a replacement plane and the new weapon to pursue the enemy. Panels of aerial combat take place w/Chip ending up falling into a Messerschmitt and landing back on British airfield. First artboard has "Chip Collins" title and writer Ted Torrence name paste-overs. Top margins of each artboard has printed "Eisner & Iger, Ltd." comics book packager company name and address. Bottom margin of each has handwritten "Fight" title and pages numbers. Tiny sliver off upper right corner. Artboards have even aging and scattered margin/corner tip wear. Backs of artboards each have small dealer inkstamp. Artboards are Fine, while art remains VF overall.
