Item Description
Large and impressive 25.5x31.5" frame contains oil painting of young woman riding ornate carousel horse. Faint bkg. image features classical image of female warrior in similar pose. 1920s. Art by James Calvert Smith (1878-1962), known for his magazine illustrations, seen in publications like "Life, Harper's Magazine" and "The Saturday Evening Post," which he provided covers for. This art is similar in style to those Post covers and was possibly a proposed cover. Artist has signed at lower right. Some lt. aging/dust soiling but o/w Exc. as framed. Dan Makara Collection.
