Item Description
12-5/8x12.5" wooden frame contains pen and ink and airbrushed original art for 1940s that has been matted to 8x8". Art was created for Quality Art Novelty Co. line of Superman greeting cards, © Superman, Inc. 1940s. Upper right depicts Superman folding down card to spy on policemen and police dog conducting search. There has been some speculation that the Superman image was drawn by Golden Age comic artist Fred Ray, but as unsigned, this is up for debate. Rest of art was done by a different uncredited artist. Evenly aged and Exc. Of note, the production card (an example is included w/this lot) featured a small spring for the dog's tail over the illustrated one. Wonderful display. Dan Makara Collection.
