Item Description
"Valor" was a  short-lived comic title published by EC Comics as the second title in its New Direction line. The bi-monthly comic lasted a total of five issues before being canceled, along w/EC's other New Direction comics. "Valor" was dedicated to tales of action and adventure in various period settings. Offered here is 15x21-1/8" artboard w/pen and ink original art by Joe Orlando (who only provided art for issues #3 and #4 of this title) for page 3 of "Valor" #4, published Oct. 1955. Page features seven panels from "Gratitude" story, showing Roman soldier/mercenary agreeing to lead grandfather and grandson on trip, only to lead them into a trap where robbers frequent and slipping away w/their chest of jewels. Last panel shows him hiding his face in shame as the grandfather and grandson are murdered. Top margin has handwritten "Valor" title, code and page number. Top margin has bold "To Wally - A Wonderful - Generous Fan - Joe Orlando" inscription. Margins have some scattered editorial notations. Top of sixth panel has 7/8x2" piece replaced w/original art. Back has EC copyright stamp. Artboard has some scattered handling wear w/some dust soiling to margins. Art o/w remains clean and displays VF.
