Item Description
3x11.75x.5" deep window display box contains 80 (of 100) pieces of bubble gum; issued in four-piece sticks by Fo-Lee Gum Corp. of Philadelphia, PA in 1949. Originally sold for 25¢, package has four different Superman cards on the reverse designed to be cut out. These 2-1/8x2.75" package-design cards are unnumbered and are not listed in the standard reference guides. All remain uncut but w/some scattered staining and leftmost card has heavy crease running across entire card, w/some splits to surface paper. This appears to have had glue repair. "B19" inkstamp on back of box between cards. Front of package features full body image of Superman left of window and classic image of Superman breaking chains to right. Both images have small 1948 NCP copyrights. Rightmost image has "Cut This Figure Out For Valuable Premiums Listed Inside." Package included a paper list of Fo-Lee premiums (that included the rare badge as well as a wallet, pen, belt and sweatshirt), but this is no longer present. Front of box has handwritten "2/15/49" date in blue ink, this likely the date received at gum/candy distributor. Gum sections have only one w/break at center while all others remain structurally sound, intact and remain displayable. Package's cellophane window remains intact, though loose at right and w/some dust soiling. Box shows wear and is missing end flap at left, part of right flap and all inner flaps. Box has 1.25" vertical tear at top center, crossing end of "Superman" name. 1.25" tear at bottom, just left of center beside "Terrific" text. Aged tape at right w/heavy creasing/tears at upper right corner. Box is just Good but remains nice for display. While contents are not complete, pieces present nicely as a full display in window. Among the rarest Superman merchandise and one of only two known examples, this the first we've offered in our 53 years. A must have rarity for both Superman and non-sports card collectors.
