Item Description
11x17" DC Comics artboard has pencil original art by Duncan Eagleson that has been inked by Vince Locke. Art is for page 8 of "Sandman" Vol. 2 #38, published by DC under their Vertigo banner June 1992. Eagleson is a self-trained painter and former graffiti artist whose career has included designing book covers for Doubleday Books, Tor Books and others as well as creating movie posters and comic book art such as that offered here. Of note, "Sandman" #38 was the only issue Eagleson worked on. Page has eight panels, showing Vassaly and his father dressing deer, then reverting back to the grandfather and his granddaughter, to whom he is telling the story of Vassaly and the old country. The story continues w/Vassaly preparing to leave home w/his few meager possessions. The granddaughter questions the story, prompting her grandfather to question Michael Jackson lyrics. Bottom three panels consist of pasted stats w/some inking. Word balloons and captions are pasted stats, which show scattered aging. Screentone accents to grandfather/granddaughter scenes have aged lightly. Bottom stat section has age spotting along margins. Artboard comes w/vellum overlay attached at top. Top margin has inked title and issue/page numbers. Lower margins have white tape as stat panels were attached. Back has attached dialogue panel for last panel w/handwritten editorial note. VF.
