Item Description
14.25x22-3/8" artboard w/pen and ink original art by Captain America co-creator Joe Simon, here ghosting for Chester Gould. Art is for "Dick Tracy" #119, published by Jan. 1958 by Harvey. This art was originally created for 1947 "Dick Tracy" comic strip and was reprinted here, w/bottom three panels being paste-over stat from that earlier strip. Main splash panel is all original art, and depicts Coffyhead hatching plan w/Autumn Hews to recruit Dick Tracy Junior and the Junior Crimestoppers (who can be seen outside window) into his juvenile gang, using his partner Lugi, who is seen in stats. Coffyhead was a known thief of automobile accessories and for his coffee addiction, which was accentuated by his coffee pot-shaped head. "Dick Tracy" title at top of page as well as image of Tracy and Junior are paste-over stats as are individual letters in "Starring Junior In A Special Crime Stoppers Issue" subtitle (which is missing one letter). Top margin has inked title abbreviation and issue number w/some inked/penciled production notes at bottom. Back of artboard has Comics Code stamp. Artboard is evenly aged w/some scattered handling wear/dust soiling w/two pin holes to top margin and pin holes at lower left corner. Artboard is Fine overall while art remains clean and VF. Comes w/hand-colored color guide for this page.
