Item Description
14.25x22-1/8" Strathmore artboard has pen an ink original art by Murphy Anderson for page 9 of "Hawkman" Vol. 1 #1, published by DC Comics May 1964. Art is from "Rivalry of the Winged Wonders" story and features five panels showing Hawkman and Hawkgirl trapped in the ruins of Tikal in Guatemala. Despite their best efforts, the Winged Wonders cannot free themselves. Hawkman remembers the bullroarer weapon he had taken from Chac (a reference to the Mayan rain god Chaac) and uses it to crumble the roof sealing them in. Last panel ends on a cliffhanger, w/rocks tumbling towards the pair. Both (or parts of both) appear in every panel. Anderson (considered among the best Silver Age Hawkman artists) has signed at bottom left of third panel in black ink. Top margin has single hole punch at top center as well as  applied title stat and inked issue/page number and month. Some pencil measurements also appear at top. Back has Comics Code Authority stamp. Artboard has some scattered dust soiling and handling wear w/some age spotting above Hawkman image in first panel and on word balloons. Art is o/w clean and VF overall. Historic Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl original art.
