Item Description
6x16-5/8" artboard has four panels of pen and ink original art w/screentone accents for June 6, 1973 daily strip by Gary Trudeau. Strip shows self-declared Vietcong terrorist Phred cooking on campfire, only to be interrupted by group of Vietnamese refugees headed to Vientiane, Laos. The leader of the refugees asks if Phred can spare some food, to which Phred agrees, asking how many there are, to which the refugee replies "135,000." Nguyen van Phred first appeared in the Feb 16, 1972 strip. Trudeau has signed last panel and added "3" to printed Universal Press Syndicate copyright date in first panel. Top has been inscribed "For Frank Jacobs - With Every Best Wish From Gary Trudeau - July 27, 1974" in blue ink. Vertical fold at center and some faint margin aging, but art remains clean and Exc.
