Item Description
10.5x15.75" artboard has pencil original art by Gene Colan that has been inked by Tom Palmer. Art is for page 11 of "Daredevil" Vol. 1 #80, published by Marvel Sept. 1971. Page features four panels, showing Daredevil racing across rooftop only to hear the approach of a helicopter, which is revealed in last panel to be that of Daredevil archnemesis The Owl (the Owl Helicopter made its first appearance in this issue). Daredevil appears in all but one panel. Second panel has screentone accent. Top margin has inkstamped title and handwritten issue/page numbers and has Colan's name in black felt tip pen, though faded w/age. Back has Comics Code Authority inkstamp and pencil sketches of three faces and hand. Colan has signed third panel in black felt tip pen beside Daredevil's face, adding "Best Wishes" inscription. Scattered white correctional fluid touch-ups. Margins have a few scattered stains, w/first panel having 1" area of staining in sky area. Back has scattered staining, not affecting front's display. Artboard is Fine/VF overall, but art for the most part remains clean and VF. Privately held since shortly after publication, this is the first time this art has been offered at auction. From the Aaron Goodman Collection, Grandson of Martin Goodman, Founder of Marvel Comics.
