Item Description
10.5x15-7/8" thin artboard pen and ink original art for page 25 of the July 1982 issue of "Detective Comics" #516, published by DC Comics. Pencils are by Jose Delbo, who began his American comics career in the 1960s, working on "Supergirl, Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" and "Wonder Woman" as well as working on "Transformers." Splash page is first page of Cary Burkett's "Sleep While The Serpent Smiles!" Batgirl story and features poisoned Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) fighting to maintain consciousness while investigating. Poster w/image of female snake charmer w/large snake wrapped around her body appears in bkg. Page has been inked by Joe Giella. Top margin has inked title, issue number, date and page number. Batgirl introduction text at top is paste-over, all other text has been hand-lettered. Thin strip added above image of snake charmer w/small portion of hair redrawn. Back has 1982 DC copyright stamp. Top right and bottom corners have been clipped. VF overall w/Exc. art. Nice example featuring full body image of Batgirl.
