Item Description
8-5/8x11.25" four-page folder features wonderfully realized mixed media original art for 1950s Christmas retailer's promotional folder for the Curtiss Candy Company, makers of "Baby Ruth" and "Butterfinger" candy bars. Cover shows Santa Claus reading the funny pages w/hand-lettered text reading "Santa Is Bringing You Bigger Christmas Profits! Cash In On The Tremendous Popularity Of These Famous Comic Characters" w/additional art of Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie and Sandy, Herby (misspelled "Heby") and Smitty. Folder opens to show stunning variety of advertising displays as well as additional images of Santa, including one of him carrying Dick Tracy "3 Dimensional Plastic Full Color Comic Statuette" w/images of the same characters seen on front as well as Harold Teen and Andy Gump. These are shown in place within boxes of Curtiss candy bars. Opposite pages shows poster, shelf talker, floor bin/stand and wraparound shopping cart advertisements for use in grocery stores. Back cover features top/bottom mailer design (as intended to be folded over for mailing) w/image of children playing w/the comic statuettes in front of Christmas tree on Christmas morning w/additional hand-lettered text noting "12 In The Series!" Mailer section w/blank area for recipient name/address has Christmas stocking image w/comic character portraits within. "A Creation Of Sam Gold - Premium King" foil crown sticker at lower right. Horizontal fold at center. Scattered dust soiling and lt. handling wear but still Fine/VF overall. Exceptional, one of a kind piece.
