Item Description
7.25x22.75" thin artboard w/India ink art by "Steve Canyon" creator Milton Caniff. Art is for Oct. 17, 1947 (the strip started Jan. 13, 1947) and features four panels, w/natives explaining to Herr Splitz that their Chief is too sick for an audience in first panel. Strip shifts to nighttime scene w/Steve Canyon, fresh from escaping jail, meeting Madame Lynx. Top left margin has stamped "Steve Canyon" name and top right has inked "Throb Insurance" title. Third panel features 7/8x1.5" paste-over w/Canyon's shadowed face redrawn. Caniff has signed this panel. First panel has Field Enterprises, Inc. copyright strip. Artboard has some lt. margin dust soiling and tiny pin holes at top corners. Art remains clean and Exc. Nice example from the first year of this classic Caniff comic strip.
