Item Description
Two pieces of thin artboard w/overall size of 18.5x23.25" w/India ink original art by "Joe Palooka" creator Ham Fisher. "Charlie The Cook" topper strip is dates Oct. 22, 1944 and features single panel, w/two GIs talking about how Charlie is sad because soldiers ran out of ammunition and instead resorted to throwing Charlie's biscuits at Japanese troops, taking out two of them. "Joe Palooka" page - subtitled "A Hawaiian Interlude" - features 11 panels, w/Joe in Hawaii, surfing w/his friends. A woman asks him to help her learn how to surf, only to get up on the board, revealing she is rather large. She falls off the surfboard and goes under the water, prompting Joe to rescue her, carrying her to shore to the applause of those on the beach. Scattered editorial notations along margins. Artboards are secured w/two large pieces of tape on reverse. Artboards have scattered moderate aging w/3.5x4" area at left of "Charlie The Cook" panel and larger 7x10" area at lower left. Some aging where two pieces join w/1" area that has two spots of moisture staining. Fine overall.
