Item Description
16-1/8x21.25" heavy Charlotte artboard w/brown paper overlay features original art used on the box of the "Colonial Scarab" vehicle produced by Mattel as part of their popular 1978 "Battlestar Galactica" toyline. Mixed media art by Otto Kuhni, who worked from the 1960s until his death in 2017, including some projects for Mattel that predate his involvement w/Hot Wheels (for which he is predominantly known) in 1967 and the "Battlestar Galactica" toyline in the 1970s. Art features Scarab on planet's surface, cockpit raised to meet to two Cylon Raider ships flying above, w/star-filled bkg. showing two planets in bkg. Image area measures 15x19.75" and margins have some printer marks. Artboard has some corner tip wear and scattered margin aging and is Fine/VF overall, but art remains bright, clean and would display NM if matted and framed. See AFA graded Colonial Scarab (item #2047) and box proof (item #2046). In our last auction, we sold the original art for the Cylon Raider box for $8,782. 1970s action figure and related packaging original art is highly sought after and rarely comes up for sale, and this is the last Battlestar Galactica art provided by our consignor. A must for the "Battlestar Galactica" fan. From the Kuhni Estate.
