Item Description
15x20" artboard has mixed media original art for proposed premium sign advertising "Cheerios Performing Circus." This 1950s prototype sign includes fully realized art of clown pointing to hand-lettered text including premium name and promotional text including - "With Life-Like Action-Packed Toys! - Get Yours To-Day For 50¢ And A Cheerios Box Top!" Balloon designs at left read "Put On Your Own Big Show - Great Fun - Sell Tickets To Your Friends - A Thrill A Minute - Characters Do Stunts, Swing And Act." Art features nicely rendered images of 17 different punch-out toys, including Majorette, Lion, Clown Dog, Acrobats, Playful Monkey, Alligator, Tiger. "'Hi-Cecil'" Giraffe, Elephant, etc. w/Big Top bkg. All pieces have hand-lettered text explaining actions. Bottom front center has "A Creation Of Sam Gold - Premium King" foil crown sticker. Pencil notation at lower right, away from art. Bottom area has some scattered red smudging, but o/w art is clean and Exc. Artboard has streak of glue staining across top margin, which also has staple holes and two staples, paperclip oxidation and artboard has some scattered handling wear/dust soiling. Fine overall. Unique. Similar to premium concept utilized as Post's "Action Prizes Circus" punch-outs, see item #2099. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
