Item Description
15x20" artboard w/vellum sheet attached has mixed media original art for prototype sign promoting 1950s "Make Believe Buttons" premium button set. While no issuer is noted (lower right corner has cut out section for product box), this sign art is similar to another by Gold we offered in our last auction, which mentioned Post. Store display sign features great art showing children w/buttons and hand-lettered text includes "I'm A Jet Pilot - I'm A Beauty Queen" w/large word balloon design featuring balloon-like "Make Believe Buttons" text surrounded by various make believe characters including baseball player, fireman, circus strongman, cowboy, magician, radio crooner, etc. Upper right has inset image of buttons (which are non-distinct) w/"Get The Entire Series - Wear Them - Collect Them - Trade Them - 50 Different Buttons In The Series" hand-lettered text w/"A 'Make Believe' Button In Each Package Of" w/arrow pointing to aforementioned product box area. Scattered margin wear w/some tears/chips and scattered text paint wear. Art remains distinct and displays Fine overall. Unique. Comes w/9x15.5" printed stat sheet of 45 button designs, w/14 having been hand-colored. Some of note include - "Northwest Mountie, Midget Racer, Miss America," baseball "Captain," football "Coach," etc. Some uncolored sports-related designs include - "Boxing Champion, Home Run King, Wrestler, Jockey." Sheet has some lt. scattered handling wear and is VF/Exc. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
