Item Description
Pair of approx. 14.75x20" artboards w/nine panels each of India ink original art by Charles "Doc" Winner, who took over writing/art duties from Harold Knerr upon Knerr's death in 1949. Artboards feature art for Feb. 8 and March 22, 1953. Feb. art shows Hans and Fritz asking to ride in Rollo's zebra cart. He tells them no and proceeds to make fun of Lena's horse riding skills. The boys concoct a plan for revenge and drill Rollo's cart's wheels. When he takes off, they throw a hornet's nest into the back of the cart. Eighth panel has KFS copyright strip. Middle panel has area of glue staining from missing paste-over and margins have aging/dust soiling. Fine overall, w/Exc. art. March art shows Hans and Fritz in canoe, annoyed by Rollo, who uses seal to water ski. After tipping the boy's canoe over, they procure a motorboat and lead the seal w/a fish on a string until Rollo wipes out, landing on the shore and disturbing a hornet's nest. Seventh panel has KFS copyright strip. Scattered dust soiling and aging, but Fine/VF overall w/Exc. art. Winner has signed last panel of both artboards and backs of each have photoengraver's stamps. Title paste-overs are recent photocopy replacements.
