Item Description
One of the most popular cereal premiums of all time were miniature license plates that were issued as box inserts by several companies and in a variety of cereals. Offered here is a large and impressive 18x24" sheet of onionskin paper w/fully realized mixed media original art for prototype sign promoting a Post Toasties "Miniature License Plates And Jig-Saw Puzzles Of Every State" cereal premium promotion from 1948. Hand-lettered text notes "A Miniature License Plate And A Jig-Saw Puzzle Of A State In Each Package." Bottom of sign has image of Post Toasties box w/"Interesting Facts About The States And Safety Hints On The Back Of Each Package" hand-lettered text. Children appear at lower left w/images representing the premiums. Four clear license plate examples appear along left, interspersed w/images of puzzles. Scattered margin aging/wear w/pin holes at bottom corners. Horizontal fold at center. Fine/VF overall w/bright and vibrant design. Comes w/three 2x4" stiff paper license plate prototypes; fronts featuring fully realized designs for Wyoming, Louisiana and Wisconsin. Each is dated 1958 and backs have handwritten pencil text about states w/outline of respective state w/a few cities noted. Exc. Neat lot for the premium historian. All unique.
