Large 27.25x33.5" beautifully crafted custom frame/matte holds two artboards w/pen and ink original art for two-page spread from "Black Cat Comics" #12 (1946) featuring instructional "Black Cat Shows You How To Do Judo Tricks" Art is by Lee Elias (1920-1998), a British-American comics artist best known for his work on "Black Cat Comics" published by Harvey Comics in the 1940s. Art features six separate images of Black Cat flipping and putting attackers in restraining holds. Each image has hand-lettered instructional text from Black Cat. First page has paste-over noting it as "Lesson Eleven" while second page has paste-over noting it as "Lesson Twelve" Title text at upper left is also paste-over as are the letters designating each image. Elias has signed each page in ink at bottom. Artboards have some lt. aging but are clean and art is Exc. Art is further enhanced by wonderful custom matte created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage of various vintage Black Cat comic panels. Bottom center of frame has hand-painted "The Black Cat" hand-painted title. Top center of frame has attached hand-cut tin litho black cat, which nicely ties the piece together. Dan Makara Collection.
