Item Description
23x28.75" beautifully crafted custom frame holds pen and ink original art for unpublished "Green Lantern" comic page. Art features two panels, w/upper panel wonderful original art showing Dr. Cypher sticking up a shackled Golden Age Green Lantern w/a gun, about to unmask him. Bottom panel is stat obtained from Roy Thomas. "Green Lantern" title at top is also a stat paste-over. Art is by Paul Reinman (1910-1988), an American comic book artist best known as one of Jack Kirby's frequent inkers during the Silver Age. Reinman has signed art at lower right of first panel. Stats have lt. even aging but o/w art remains bright, clean and Exc. Art was apparently intended for "All-American Comics" #89, but this story was abandoned and ordered destroyed, w/pages being cut into horizontal tiers. Art is further enhanced by great frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing Golden Age Green Lantern comic panels from the 1940s (featuring the origin of DC Comics villain Solomon Grundy). Top center of inner frame has "Tops In Comics!" label w/cut out portraits of both Green Lantern and his sidekick Doiby Dickles. Lower left features the pair again, w/Makara continuing image of criminal being punched by Green Lantern onto matte as well as slightly onto artboard itself. Inner frame also has two three-dimensional word balloons added for depth. Dan Makara Collection.
