Item Description
Large 28.5x29.25" beautifully crafted custom frame contains 9.5x10.75" artboard w/pen and ink original art for 1904 single panel cartoon featuring Buster Brown and Tige standing beside large proclamation reading "Resolved! That Pa Has Registered And Pa's Cattle Are Registered And I Am Registered And , Tige, Come To Think Of It You Are Registered - I Guess We Can All Vote" w/Buster's signature at end. Art is by "Buster Brown" creator R.F. Outcault (1863-1928), an American cartoonist noted for his creation of The Yellow Kid and Buster Brown. Outcault has signed at lower right of art and art bears faint ink inscription that reads "To Doctor Borsch - In Hand On August 8th, 1905 - With Kindest Regards - R.F. Outcault." Artboard has some corner creases but these do not detract greatly and art remains clean. VF overall. Art is further enhanced by great frame and custom matte created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing various "Buster Brown" comic strip images and postcards of the era, some w/handwritten text. Frame has circular areas w/11 mounted 13/16" dia. vintage "Buster Brown Hose Supporter" pinback buttons. Bottom center has mounted cast metal belt buckle w/raised "Buster Brown And Tige In The New York Herald" text and portraits. Vintage "Buster Brown" comic title paste-over below this. Neat display, featuring original art for a cartoon from the second year of this groundbreaking and historic comic strip. Dan Makara Collection.
