Item Description
10.75x15.75" thin artboard has pencil and ink original art by legendary comic book pair Jack "King" Kirby and inker Bill Everett for page 18 of the March 1970 issue of "Thor" published by Marvel Comics. Art is from "The Challenge Of The Crypto-Man" story featuring Thor and Jasper Whyte (this is his only appearance before dying in this issue). Page features six panels, showing Thor and Whyte on the search for Crypto-Man, who remains one step ahead of them as he travels through the sewers to reach an atomic energy complex. Third panel features Whyte proclaiming Crypto-Man's true intent, to which Thor replies "Thor Says Thee Nay!" amongst classic Kirby machinery designs. Thor is featured in each panel, as is Whyte. Stamped title w/handwritten issue/page number in felt tip pen at top. Additionally, margins have some penciled text, but text runs off the page, indicating possible slight trim. This in no way affects art. Taped "Continued After Next Page" paste-over at bottom right panel. Back of board has Comics Magazine Code Authority stamp w/1969 date. First two panels each have slightly aged strip of tape on word balloons, not greatly affecting art. Fifth panel has some scattered staining which extends slightly into third panel above, but this is mostly on word balloons. Rest of art remains clean and VF. Great Kirby and Everett Thor art from the last days of the Silver Age and the dawn of the Bronze Age.
