Item Description
Sizes are about 1-1/8" for the smallest circular pieces up to 4-1/8" for the big brass piece titled "Member Of United Air Lines' 100,000 Mile Club". This piece is flat on the reverse with a threaded screw and nut for attachment as a car accessory. Staying with American Airlines, all pieces in row 5 are from this company with the first two in brass having threaded posts and screw caps on the reverse followed by a silvered brass tie bar and then a silvered medallion with enamel paint naming "11th Annual American Airlines Open Golf Tournament 1968 San Diego." This has a small metal hook on the top edge. Vast majority of the other pieces also have threaded posts and screw caps on the reverse. The exceptions are the first item for "Eastern Airlines" which was apparently sewn to the uniform as there is no fastener on the reverse. Center has very early company logo with just one near microscopic nick in the enamel. In row 2 are four additional items showing the revised and more modernized Eastern logo. In row 3 first item for "Northwest Airlines/U.S. Air Mail" is convex with three small holes on the wing design at the center so perhaps missing a small winged emblem. Row 3, #2 is the one pin-back badge in the group showing the enamel logo of "KLM". This is followed by a sterling ring with the same logo. Next is for "Alleghany Airlines" followed by a tie bar for "Capital Airlines/Five Years." This was made by Anson and is gold filled. In row 4, #1 is for "PanAm" with reverse reading "Ground Personnel", second with maple leaf has initials "TCA" with reverse name of a Montreal maker, third features enamel logo for "SAS" and last in that row has enamel and brass logo for "Delta". Last item in the group is a heavy leather backed piece of fabric with attached metal logo for "United". Again reverse has threaded post. An outstanding group of company issued insignia largely from the 1940s into the 1960s. Vast majority are in Exc. to Mint condition. Most of these pieces would have been displayed on hats or uniform coats.
