Item Description
17x26" original first printing thick cardboard poster advertising a concert at "Himmelreich's Grove" in "Womelsdorf, PA. Sun. July 18" 1953. Additional text at top reads "WSM Grand Ole Opry Presents In Person" and this poster features a youthful portrait of Smith wearing his then signature suit at lower left. A 1.75" hairline crease at top right corner that does not break the surface paper. Also a less than 1" bend and a faint .5" light brown stain affecting lower left corner contained to the margin. No pin holes or tape pulls. A clean and bright example of a rare poster. VF. In the early 1950's as a burgeoning star Smith was befriended by Hank Williams and toured w/the legendary country musician. His first wife was June Carter and despite being a major figure in the rise of country music he retired from the industry to become a farmer at the age of 50. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2003.
