Item Description
11.5x16.75" thin artboard has Gene Colan's final pencils original art for the cover to "Howard The Duck" #16 (Sept. 1977). Art features Howard the Duck and his occasional girlfriend Beverly Switzler scrambling on a huge typewriter, Howard springing to the attack against a pair of giant clawed hands. Large blank area at top for allotment of book title. These covers were inked by Tom Palmer, who would commonly use a lightbox to create the final inked version of many published covers in the 1970s. As such, art remains untouched and in Colan's original format. Upon inking, Palmer made slight alterations, including space between Howard and Beverly. Penciled title/issue number at top margin w/editorial notation along left margin. Bottom right has been signed by Gene Colan, who has added inscription. Artboard shows scattered handling wear w/some staining at upper left, but art remains clean and would display Exc. if matted and framed.
