Item Description
14.25x24.25x2" deep painted (textured orange) metal case contains A.C. Gilbert Co. 1933 Size 10 set. Lid has metal fasteners and features illustrated decal featuring "Gilbert Chemistry Outfit" text and image of boys w/two test tubes. Case has scattered wear in the form of paint nicks/scratches and has some small areas of bare metal showing. Front left corner has some denting to metal, w/1" area of bare metal and closing lid is somewhat difficult. Fine overall. Lid decal has scattered aging/staining. VG/Fine. Set appears complete w/various cork-stoppered glass vials and wooden canisters, each labeled w/what is inside. Underside of lid has series of metal clips holding "Gilbert Glass Blowing, Gilbert Chemical Magic" and "Gilbert - Chemistry" manuals as well as small envelopes containing material for experiments and wire brush. Items attached to lid show varying degrees of lt. aging and are VG-VF overall. Some of the wooden canisters have been opened and set appears to have had lt. use. Some chemicals have aged w/some leaking, most evident at upper left corner of case, which has moderate oxidation and heavy moisture damage to cardboard insert. Small metal measuring spoon has obvious oxidation and glass dropper's rubber bulb has hardened and become misshapen w/age. VG-VF overall. Hard to find larger set. Barry Lutsky Collection.
