Item Description
The Dionne Quintuplets (born May 28, 1934 just outside Callander, Ontario, Canada) are the first quintuplets known to survive past infancy. Delivered and taken under the care of Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, they were exhibited on a daily basis to thousands of tourists visiting their home. Offered here is 10x10.5" tall (12" tall to top of socket) by 7.5" deep plaster lamp depicting Dr. Dafoe holding the Quintuplets. Raised "5 Jumelles" text at front of lamp. Back has incised "Brevete 1934" text as well as "Parfumerie Souvenir - Station Postalet - Boite 62 - Montreal." This item was sold as a souvenir, possibly at Quintland, the theme park across the street from the Dionne house where the sisters were displayed. Lamp has original cord and works. Piece was broken above the Quintuplets' heads and as such, lamp has had moderate restoration to this area, most noticeable on back. Majority blends. Dr. Dafoe has some color touch-ups to his hair but o/w no restoration has been done to the faces or other main parts, which have scattered paint flaking. VG/Fine. Very rare, first we've seen in our 49 years and one of the most impressive Dionne items we've seen. Eric Renner Collection and the example shown on page 143of his book "American Disguise."
