Item Description
Within the field of political campaign item collecting there are two groups of artifacts that have consistently ranked among the most coveted items by collectors: the Cox/Roosevelt jugate buttons and the Abraham Lincoln parade flags. Obtaining a single example of either trophy is a milestone that even many of the most advanced collectors often spend a lifetime pursuing. We are pleased to offer our bidders the opportunity to obtain this exemplary 11x17" glazed cotton 1860 parade flag. The combination of the misspelled "Abram" and the pleasing design of stars in the canton make this a special example. This item was part of a small find in the 1980s of political flags from the 1860-1868 elections that were used as the backing of a quilt. This use kept the fragile color pigments away from decimating light preserving the group in outstanding condition. For total accuracy we note: horizontal stitch lines along the top and bottom edges; a vertical stitch line 1.5" in from left and a few spots of faint and trivial toning. All of which are noticeable only upon detailed inspection and do not detract from the overall irreproachable display quality. The last Lincoln example we recall on the open market from this small group brought over $25,000 several years ago and was in lesser condition than our current offering. The condition conscious collector must take note of this opportunity, obtaining a Lincoln flag in this high grade condition is nearly impossible. The majority of examples present with varying condition issues associated with the often hard use they endured during the campaign and subsequent scars from their travels in over 150 years of existence. With interest in Lincoln material seemingly always at a fever pitch, this is a special opportunity to obtain an investment grade Lincoln campaign artifact.
