Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 8.5" long battery-operated hand made in Japan by Cragstan Industries Inc., 1960s. Box lid features great image of Frankenstein Monster reaching towards viewer and this is rare box version w/illustration of boy at lower right w/word balloon reading "It Will Kill You," which was later removed for obvious reasons. Lid has creases at corners and pencil impression at top of main panel. Side panels have some spots of staining around staples and top side panel has .5x.75" area of surface paper lift. Fine overall. Tin litho hand was designed w/thin rubber outer skin coating. Over the years this coating has melted/decomposed and hardened. While most remains intact on back of the hand and palm, this coating has numerous cracks. Hand is designed w/three metal finger interiors while thumb and pinky finger were rubber-covered cotton batting. Both thumb and pinky have broken off hand; thumb somewhat retaining its shape while pinky has disintegrated beyond recognition (flaked pieces of "skin" and cotton batting included). Hand is missing fabric cuff attached at wrist but comes w/original metal ring w/bright gold luster and red plastic jewel. Ring is NM. Toy was designed w/a crawling action and the battery box is exceptionally bright and clean. Toy works, but due to the delicate nature of the hand's covering, we advise against use. Hand is in Poor condition and just comes along. An exceptional box and toy itself is rare due to the susceptible nature of its construction. Very rare as boxed and w/ring.
