Item Description
5.5x7.25x1.25" deep hinged lid painted/paper-covered wooden box contains game by McLoughlin Bros. from 1880. Lid has paper label w/"Electrical Instructor - Matrimonial" name and image of ship at sea during storm. Bottom has paste-over w/"Presented By M. Rohringer, Reliable One-Price Clothier, 18 N. Central Street, Pottsville, PA. 11 Main Street, Shenandoah, PA." which indicates this was presented to store customers. Lid opens to reveal glass case w/magnetic suspended hand within. Paper overlay on glass provides answers to questions printed on matching separate double-sided cardboard disc that is to be placed at center. Game uses magnetic cues to answer questions asked and works well. Underside of lid has paper label w/wonderful illustration of globe spanned by telegraph cables w/instructors sending/receiving messages w/"Scientific. Instructive. Amusing. Impressive." text. This label has split from overlay on glass case surface and lid has had clear tape added along inside seam as reinforcement. Edges of box have dark sparkle accents. Scattered wear/aging w/surface paper remnants attached to center right edge of glass overlay. Fine overall. Rare.
