Item Description
14.75x23.25" thin Strathmore artboard has pen and ink original art for "The Funnies," Dell Publishing's first comic book. The magazine ran 36 weekly issues, published Saturdays from Jan. 16, 1929 to Oct. 16, 1930. The tabloid-sized publication contained original comic strips, one of which included "My Big Brudder" by Tack Knight. Art features 13 panels (including illustrated title panel) and shows three boys discussing their musical preferences, one referring to "My Big Brudder." The subject of "playing by ear" comes up, which confuses the boys until the last panel shows an old man w/an ear horn. This panel has been signed by Knight. Margins have some scattered pencil editorial notes and show obvious wear, especially along left, w/small tears and slivers/small pieces off. Scattered dust soiling and even aging. VG overall, but art still displays Fine.
