Item Description
One of two designs from 1941 produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island and used by dairies participating in the Superman Defense Club milk program. Ring top features our first seen example with milk company initial “W” with diagonal lightning bolt plus eyeball design surrounded by accent lines. The brass top plate snaps off from the base and the underside holds a paper sticker picturing and reading “Superman.” This is an outstanding NM example with just two microscopic dots of surface paper off the design margins. We cannot recall offering a more perfect example. The brass luster is also outstanding. There is the slightest loss from the bottom narrow prong seen only on closest viewing. To the naked eye the luster appears Mint on all other areas and overall the luster is NM. Of roughly 30 known in all grades, we’ve seen only this and three others that are truly NM. Over the past 15 years we’ve had these initials: A-1, B-4, E-1, M-1, R-1, and now this NM “W”. Franco Toscanini Collection.
