Item Description
2-5/16” button with metal back and bar pin plus Levin’s hand printed black ink documentation: “Made For Abbie Hoffman’s Court Appearance 1981”. Two years after Hoffman published “Steal This Book” in 1971, he was arrested (he maintained entrapped) on August 28, 1973 on charges of intent to sell cocaine. In Spring 1974, he skipped bail, underwent cosmetic surgery to alter his appearance and went into hiding as Barry Freed. On September 4, 1980, he surrendered to authorities but not before giving an interview to ABC-TV’s Barbara Walters which aired the day of his surrender. His trial took place in 1981 and he was given a one-year sentence, but released after four months. The button is Mint as made and rare, if not unique. The only example known to us. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake’s COA.
