Item Description
Published in "Mad" #248 in July 1984. Story was written by Larry Siegel. Six thin artboards measuring between 17x21" and 19.25x25" w/India ink image areas. "Scarred Face" story satirized Brian De Palma's popular 1983 crime drama "Scarface." First page has three panels showing rough conditions of Cuban refugee camp in Miami, complete w/"Desi Arnaz Elementary Skool" sign and teacher. Second panel features "Toadie," an obvious caricature of Al Pacino's Tony Montana character as line cook, going on to pick-up cocaine w/his friend Manny Ribera (Steven Bauer). Second page features three panels w/nice large portrait of the two at top, talking about having to "ice" someone to escape the refugee camp. Last panel features image of child's birthday party, w/kids seated around table snorting cocaine. Third page features six panels and shows Toadie meeting a caricature of Michelle Pfeiffer's character, named "Elvirus" here. Page goes on to show Toadie w/Elvirus and then his mother and sister. Frank Lopez caricature "Rank Lopizz" and associate watch Toadie and Elvirus dance, plotting their deaths. Fourth page features six panels and shows shootout before switching to classic bathtub scene before being informed that his sister is now living w/his friend "Meanie" as they were married. Last page features six panels and shows Toadie shooting his sister and friend before being ambushed by Federal Narcotic Agents and having another shootout, which leads to Toadie falling into his tub. Each page has felt tip pen note at bottom left w/issue/page number/title notes. Each page has also been signed in ink by Jack Davis. Word balloon text are paste-overs. Margins have typical editorial notes but pages will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. Superb graphics throughout.
